Community Profile
The Beginnings
The area around Stittsville was first settled in the early 1820’s by immigrants from the British Isles and by soldiers from the army regiments disbanded after the war of 1812. The first identifiable community was established in 1832 on the road from Ottawa (then known as Bytown) to the settlements in the Upper Ottawa Valley by Jackson Stitt an immigrant from Ireland.
