Growth
Stittsville remained a small farming community serving the local area for many years. By 1899 the population was only 205 and by the mid-1950’s had only reached about 500. By the late 1960’s, however, with the growth of Ottawa itself and its burgeoning high-tech industry, and the improvement in road and transportation systems, rapid expansion started in Stittsville. By 1993 the population had increased to nearly 10,000,
and it has been estimated at the end of 2007, the population
of Stittsville reached 23,025. It is expected that there
will be close to 30,000 residents by 2011 given the pace and
distribution of current development.
