The Stittsville Village Association passed a motion April 9th adding its support to the Southwest Stittsville Community Association’s effort to delay development at 6279 Fernbank Road. Citing concerns about stormwater management and other issues, City Planning staff recently submitted a report recommending that the Planning Committee and Council refuse applications for a zoning bylaw amendment and a plan of subdivision application submitted on behalf of J.P. Chenier Company Ltd. Planning Committee is set to address the report recommendations April 14th, and Council will vote April 15th. See the text of the SVA letter of support below:

Re: 6279 Fernbank Road

The Stittsville Village Association wishes to express its support of City of Ottawa planning staff’s recommendations to refuse at Planning Committee April 14, 2015, and at Council April 15, 2015, a Zoning By-Law Amendment and a Plan of Subdivision Application that would allow a proposed residential development to go forward at 6279 Fernbank Road. SVA board members also agree on their support of the City’s decision to delay responding to these applications at the related Ontario Municipal Board hearing (Case #PL131306) scheduled to begin April 20, 2015.

The SVA has significant concerns about the environmental damage that has already occurred to wetlands and wildlife on the property at 6279 Fernbank Road, about insufficient measures in an area with a history of flooding issues to ensure no excess water on neighbouring homes and adjacent Urban Natural Feature if the development goes forward, and about the uncomplimentary difference in elevation and composition of the proposed development in relation to neighbouring properties even if water issues can be mitigated.

In short, the SVA would not be comfortable supporting approval of this development without more information about how the concerns listed above will be addressed.
