Stittsville Parade of Lights
November 30 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
2019 Stittsville Parade of Lights takes place November 30, beginning at 6 pm. Please note this year’s route will be slightly shorter than usual, running along Stittsville Main Street from Carp Road to Abbott Street. This will be followed by the lighting of Village Square Park immediately after the parade.
There are fifty float entries available for this year’s parade, with priority given to Stittsville businesses and organizations. As in past years, there is no fee to enter a float, but donations to the SVA to help defer costs are always welcome. Participants must show proof of insurance, and will be asked to sign a liability waiver. All floats must incorporate lights and be festively decorated (but no Santas, please, as that is reserved for our special guest of honour from the North Pole).
To register a float, please send an email to Tanya.Hein76@gmail.com with ‘Parade Float’ in the subject line.
The parade cannot go forward safely without the help of about 100 volunteers, mostly to monitor traffic barriers along the route. This entails being at your assigned location at 5:30 pm, wearing a safety vest (provided), erecting a barrier and ensuring no one moves it while you enjoy the parade. Barriers are then moved to the curb following the parade. Students can earn 3-4 hours of community service, although helpers under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
To volunteer during the parade, please send an email to Tanya.Hein76@gmail.com with ‘Parade Volunteer’ in the subject line.
