DESCRIPTION:Stittsville Village Association is proud to host a candidate Q&A in advance of the upcoming municipal and school board election September 23rd\, at Stittsville United Church\, 6255 Fernbank Road. \nSchool board trustees from Ottawa Carleton District School Board (Zone 1)\, Conseil des écoles catholiques du centre-est (Zone 4)\, and Conseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario (Zone 12) are invited to make an opening statements beginning at 6 pm (John Curry has been acclaimed for the Ottawa Catholic School Board). Questions from the audience will follow\, and we will end the school board trustee candidate portion of the evening with closing statements. With three trustee contests spanning nine candidates in two languages\, we will do our best to ensure everyone is heard. \nGlen Gower \nShad Qadri \nAt 7 pm\, we will turn the evening over to the Ward 6 municipal council candidates\, with opening statements beginning at approximately 7:15 pm. Our two candidates\, incumbent Shad Qadri and challenger Glen Gower\, will each have the opportunity to make a four-minute or less opening statement\, which will be followed by 45-second questions from the audience. Question order will be determined by a ticket draw. Responses are limited to two minutes\, with no rebuttals. At about 9:05 pm\, candidates may make a four-minute closing statement. \nOur bilingual moderator will be former Goulbourn Township Councillor and the first president of the SVA\, Louise Beggs. Hélène Rivest will act as our official timer. We ask that applause be kept brief\, and for everyone to refrain from heckling or talking over other speakers. \nNeed more election information? DESCRIPTION:The SVA invites Carleton riding residents to get to know the candidates vying to represent them at a Q&A meeting May 20th\, beginning at 7 pm\, at Stittsville United Church. All Carleton candidates registered to appear on the ballet will be invited to participate. \nProvincial Carleton Candidates’ Meeting\nHosted by the Stittsville Village Association\nMay 20\, 2018\, 7 pm\nStittsville United Church \nFormat  \nEach candidate will be invited to make a four-minute (or less) introduction/opening statement\, the order of which will be determined by drawing numbers from the moderator prior to the opening of the meeting. Following these statements\, questions from the audience will begin.  \nAttendees will be offered tickets when they come in the meeting room\, and these will be drawn in groups of five\, at random\, by the moderator\, throughout the course of the evening to determine question order.  \nQuestions will be limited to a maximum of 45 seconds to encourage concise thoughts\, and may be addressed to a maximum of two candidates. If someone else wants to hear the same answer from other candidates\, he or she may ask and address it to the candidate(s) of his/her choosing when his/her ticket number is called. Question askers may choose to identify themselves\, but are not obligated to do so. Answers from candidates will be limited to two minutes. This is a q&a rather than a debate\, so there will be no follow up questions or rebuttals. If we are able to receive questions from all those who took a ticket at the beginning of the meeting\, a second round of tickets will be circulated.  \nAt the end of the evening\, each candidate may make a three-minute closing statement\, the order of which will be determined by drawing numbers from the moderator prior to the opening of the meeting.  \nThe meeting timer will project a countdown timer on the wall for everyone to see\, and candidates will be flashed a yellow card when they have 15 seconds remaining in their speaking time. Please respect the allotted time slots. \nSetup \nCandidates will be invited to set up an information table in the hallway outside of the meeting room half an hour before the meeting is scheduled to begin. This may include signage\, brochures\, volunteers\, etc.\, but the hallway must not be blocked by large flags or other materials. We ask that materials not be waved around or otherwise displayed inside the meeting room\, and that candidates collect any material left behind at the end of the meeting. \nCandidates may have one poster or sign (max size 11 inches by 14 inches/29 by 36 cm\, portrait or landscape) set up in front of their space at the speakers’ table in the meeting room\, facing the audience.  \nCandidates may erect two small lawn signs outside the meeting venue half an hour before the meeting begins. These must be removed immediately following the meeting\, and must not at any time impede access to the building or pedestrian pathways. \nDecorum \nThe goal for this evening is to respectfully share information between the community and its candidates. The SVA expects common sense behaviour from all participants and attendees\, and anyone deemed disruptive by the moderator will be warned once to refrain from that behaviour. Repeat offenders will be asked to leave. These expectations will be highlighted by the moderator at the beginning of the meeting. \nSpecifically: \n– One speaker at a time\, as identified by the moderator. Don’t talk over each other. \n– Heckling is not a productive use of our time. \n– Keep applause to a minimum \n– Refrain from asking repeat questions to the same candidates \n– Respect the allotted speaking times

It needs to be dark enough for the movie to play. We can only estimate the start time. It is looking to be approx 8.15/8.30 \n\nIs the popcorn gluten-free/peanut?\nWe will have popcorn and drinks by donation to the Stittsville Food Bank. This has been donated for the event so we only have a limited supply. We have popcorn that is peanut-free and gluten free. Although we do recommend to bring your own snacks if you have severe allergies. \nWhere should I park my car?\nThere is a parking lot off Stittsville Main Street\, opposite Quitters. We would recommend that you walk or bike if possible\, as there will be limited parking options. \nShould I bring something to sit on?\nYes! Please bring a blanket to sit on for the movie. We also recommend bug spray and layered clothing. \nWill there be bathrooms available?\nYes! Stittsville Glass and Signs will have their bathrooms available on the night. (Thank you Stittsville Glass and Signs!) \nOther things I should know?\n• This is a volunteer run event. It is the first one\, so we might be working out some kinks. Your consideration and cooperation are appreciated.\n• Local businesses have donated funds to enable this event to happen.
