Village Square Park (corner of Abbott and Stittsville Main)

Enjoy an exhibition of the best creative works from Stittsville and surrounding areas, and meet the talented artists and authors behind them. Activities for adults and children throughout the afternoon.
Artists & Authors in the Park, hosted by the Stittsville Village Association, has become a spring tradition in Village Square Park. Dozens of artists and authors will be exhibiting their best work in a relaxed park setting that enables conversation between exhibitors and visitors to the park. Not only will residents have a chance to talk to the artists and authors in attendance, they will also have a chance to learn about their world and to have the opportunity to purchase original art pieces and autographed books. Children and youth are encouraged to join their families in getting to know the men and women behind our thriving creative community, and to partake in several child- and youth-oriented activities, including a children’s art show. Submissions begin May 1st at Shad Qadri’s GRC office.

  • About 45 artists & authors on hand to show and discuss their creations (books, paintings, drawings, sculpture, photographs, textiles and more)
  • How to get published workshop for aspiring writers (Tim Gordon, General Store Publishing House)
  • Local authors presenting passages from their work

A note to Artists & Authors…

The Stittsville Village Association is honoured to once again organize Artists & Authors in the Park. We are really excited about the 2012 edition of this annual event, and look forward to the prospect of your participation. In an effort to attract even more visitors to the exhibit, we have organized several new activities this year, including textile demonstrations, a children’s art show with the theme, “Life In Your Village”, and a how-to workshop for aspiring writers who want tips on getting their work published.

The attached Press Release provides you with some general information about this event, scheduled for May 27, 2012, from noon until 5 pm in Village Square Park at the intersection of Stittsville Main Street and Abbott Street. Please note that there will be an opportunity throughout the afternoon for authors to read passages from their work. If you are interested in doing a reading, please let one of the organizing committee members know that when you register.

Each exhibitor will be provided with a marked 3m X 3m (10ft X 10ft) display space. As in the past, we do not make any reservations. Locations are assigned on a first come first served basis. Persons from the organizing committee and volunteers will be on hand starting at 8:00 AM for those who need help setting up their stand.
Exhibitors must provide their own table, stands, chairs, etc. We do recommend, if possible, to also bring a portable canopy or a garden umbrella for comfort. To rent display grids, easels and canopies, please contact John Madden at Art Mad (613- 831-1100) or for grid rental only, Dorothy Hayter of the Kanata Art Club (613-592-6639). Rental fees are nominal.

As in past years, there is $15 participation fee for each exhibit space, payable upon arrival by cheque or cash. This fee goes toward covering the cost of park rental, washroom facility, and other administrative details.
Questions or registration queries may be sent to Metin Akgun or Tanya Hein, contact information below. We hope to see you in May!
